Stolen 4 wheeler recovered

On 7/31/09 Detective Kim Bettis received information about the possible location of a stolen 4-wheeler. Detective John Hendricks and Deputy Willie Baker responded to the location where they recovered one of two 4-wheelers that had been reported stolen during the July 4th Holiday weekend. Mary Kathy Newman DOB 12/5/1965 was arrested and charged with Theft by Receiving a Class "D" Felony and her bond was set at $10,000.00. Gerald Newman was also at the residence but fled when officers arrived. Gerald Newman had an outstanding misdemeanor county warrant for approximately $5000.00. Detective Bettis received additional information the following day that Gerald Newman was back hiding at his residence. Officers went to the residence and Newman was arrested without incident. Newman confessed to stealing the 4-wheelers and was charged with One Count of Breaking and Entering a class "D" Felony and 2 counts of theft of Property both a class "C" Felony, his bond was set at $100,000.00 due to him being a flight risk.After further investigation Detectives obtained enough information and recovered the 2nd 4-wheeler from Independence County to charge Mark Brackett DOB 5/19/1959 with One count of Breaking and Entering a Class "D" Felony and 2 Counts of Theft of Property both a Class "C" Felony for his role in the thefts. Brackett's bond was set at $25,000.00.
